This adventure begins on the banks of the Chobe River, in the Botswana town of Kasane. Our first two nights of this adventure will be on the edge of the river at the Magnificent Chobe Safari Lodge, where we will enjoy a spectacular boat cruise on the game rich Chobe River.
Heading west from Chobe', we make our way to another wild area that beautifully mirrors the Okavango wetlands with an edge that is distinctly “Namibian” - Mamili, experiencing unspoilt views of the Linyanti Wetlands and its abundant wildlife and birdlife.
Journeying still west through the Caprivi Strip, we head into the Kavango region. The Kavango river, which flows from Angola, brings life-giving water and minerals to the Okavango Delta. We will camp on the banks of the Kavango River.
Heading south from Ngepi, we cross the border into Botswana and journey around the western fringe of the delta to a camp right on the edge of this incredible wetland itself. Boat rides and fishing are on offer here. The birdlife is amazing in this part of the country.
The gateway to the Okavango Delta, Maun, is ideally situated as a stopover point before the adventure gets wild! A night in a chalet and plenty of time to stock up for the next few days as we will be heading from here to very remote campsites in the bush.
Adjacent to the Moremi Game Reserve, the woodlands and wetland of Khwai provides game viewing which is just sublime. Camps are wild and unfenced and elephants abound and wild dogs are often seen on tours to this area.
We drive through Chobe National Park to reach Savuti. The sand is thick and going is tough, but the big drive is worth it! Savuti is known for its unbeatable predator viewing along with the usual large herds of Elephant and other numerous general game. Expect roaring lions at night!
We’re back in the Kasane area, but this time after restocking for the night, we head out of town to a bush camp on the edge of the Zimbabwe border for one more night of wild camping in the Botswana bush.
Today we leave Botswana and enter Zimbabwe for our last 2 nights of this adventure at the very special town of Victoria Falls. There is so much to do in this safari town and our last evening is spent with a special cruise on the Zambezi River itself.
Connecting flights back to major international airports in South Africa can be made from Victoria Falls. Alternatively, onward travel to other safari destinations is easily arranged from here.
Starting in Kasane, on the banks of the Chobe River in Botswana, this adventure circumnavigates the entire Okavango Delta region and takes you through 3 countries - Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe. Visiting wild places along the way, all inextricably linked by the life giving rivers that dominate central Southern Africa. We end at the magnificent Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe.
Your vehicle is a Toyota Hilux double cab 4x4 kitted out with 2 rooftop tents that sleep 4 people. The vehicles come fully kitted out for camping with kitchen and all cooking equipment as well as 4 chairs and a camp table. Bedding and towels are included. These vehicles have long range tanks, 2 spare wheels and all the necessary recovery and repair equipment. Included is a 40L fridge which runs off a dual battery system.
Kasane is a good place to start and stock up on all your essentials. There are well stocked supermarkets and shops in this bustling town on the Chobe River. We will pass through small towns in strategic places along the journey where you can stock up for a few days at a time.
